The Hawai`i State Center for Nursing is sponsoring an event on Friday, May 6, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. as part of Nurses Week, which runs from May 6-12.
The event, The Art of Nursing as a Science, will be held at the Mendonca Building Courtyard (on the corner of Maunakea and Hotel Streets) in conjunction with First Friday in Chinatown.
All nurses, health care professionals and the community-at-large are invited to attend an evening of enlightenment, enrichment and education. Celebrate Nurses Week by learning how nurses are changing health care through their innovative research work and the positive results for patients, healthcare organizations and the people of Hawai`i.
The event also features artfully prepared posters showcasing Evidence Based Practice projects carried out by teams of nurses from local health care organizations and a UH Mānoa nursing student. Teams will be available to share the story of their projects.
The Hawaii State Center for Nursing's purpose is assure that the State of Hawai`i has the nursing resources necessary to meet the healthcare needs of its people. Hawaiʻi's healthcare environment shows an aging population with increased health care needs; an aging nursing workforce headed toward retirement and a shortage of nursing faculty to educate future nurses. Based on projections which show a significant nursing shortage, the Hawai`i State Legislature in 2003 created the Hawai`i State Center for Nursing (Act 198, HB 422).
