Free Diversity Symposium at UH Hilo

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Diversity Symposium, “Sustainability, Social Justice and Health,” is Wednesday, February 16 in Campus Center 301 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Parking is $3.

“The all-day symposium will bring together people who care about what’s happening in our world, our community and our families,” said Dr. Catherine Becker, event chair. “The program examines insights and efforts for building a better world by philosophers, scientists, community leaders and more.

“The morning session features the ‘Awakening the Dreamer’ symposium offered by the Patchamama Alliance. Through the use of multimedia and interactive formats, participants will examine environmental, social and personal well-being, the root causes that lead to our current imbalance, new ways of relating with each other, and the emerging movement for change,” she added.

Afternoon discussion topics include: How the Filipino Certificate Program at UH Hilo connects to Diversity, Sustainability, Social Justice and Health; Publishing Historical Land Use Records of Hawai‘i: Sustaining Hawai‘i’s Cultural Heritage; Diversity and Social Justice in Hawai‘i: Past and Present; The Eco-Village/Co-housing Model; Our Children: The Future; Green Business; Sustainable Building and Carbon-neutral Design; Sustainable Agriculture and Korean Farming; and Conservation and Hawai‘i.
