Na Pua Noʻeau awarded OHA grants

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is providing Nā Pua No’eau, the Center for Gifted and Talented Native Hawaiian Children at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, $1,231,140 to conduct programs through the various Nā Pua No’eau Centers on each of the islands.

The programs include Super Saturdays, the Kupulau Program and summer residential programs that increase college access and success of Hawaiian students. Through partnerships with UH programs and other organizations, Na Pua Noʻeau continue to provide education and career pathways to students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), leadership and health careers.

The center has provided educational enrichment programs and activities to over 12,000 students in 21 years of operation. Many of these former students are currently in college or have graduated and are professionals in the local community.

Additionally, OHA has also provided Nā Pua Noʻeau $80,000 to help develop the leadership of high school students through the Aha Opio Alakaʻi (Hawaiian Youth Leadership) Program.
