Honolulu Community College's (Honolulu CC) Music and Entertainment Learning Experience (MELE) program will host a free public event to unveil its newly renovated state-of-the-art recording studio. In recognition of a substantial donation from the Mike Curb Family Foundation, the learning facility will be renamed the Mike Curb Music and Entertainment Learning Experience Studios.

WHEN: Friday, November 5, 2010 - 3 to 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: Honolulu Community College (874 Dillingham Blvd.), Campus Mall between Bldg. 2 and the Children’s Center
A sign dedication ceremony will commence at 3 p.m. with philanthropist and music mogul Mike Curb. A hosted reception will follow with public tours of the studio conducted by students in the MELE program. The who’s who of the Hawaiian music industry will be present.
The Honolulu CC MELE program is the only program in the state that offers students Associate of Science degrees in Music Business or Audio Engineering. The goal of the program is to invest in local talent to grow Hawai‘i's music industry and broaden its reach to the world.
"We have a lot of raw musical talent in Hawai‘i, and the MELE program, with the help of generous donors like Mike Curb, will help us develop the infrastructure needed to support entertainers and musicians in their careers," shares Keala Chock, director of the MELE Program. "MELE aims to bring best practices here, for the benefit of the local music industry overall, and to help generate high-quality music with a Hawai‘i ‘brand’ that can build a presence in the global music business."
Two years ago the Honolulu CC MELE program opened with an enrollment of 27 students. Today, more than 300 students have taken MELE classes, and in spring 2011 the first associate degrees will be awarded.
