David Lassner
David Lassner, University of Hawai‘i vice president for information technology and chief information officer, has been elected as chair of the Board of Directors of EDUCAUSE, the leading professional association for information technology in higher education.
Lassner is currently serving a four-year term on the EDUCAUSE Board, to which he was elected by the membership in 2009. He has previously served EDUCAUSE in a variety of roles, including as past chair of both its Nominations Committee and Recognition Committee, Net@EDU Advisory Committee member, and on the faculty of the EDUCAUSE Institute Management Program.
Active nationally, internationally and locally, Lassner was a founding board member of the Kuali Foundation, served as a board member and plays an active leadership role in Internet2, has led the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET), and served as president and board chair for the Honolulu-based Pacific Telecommunication Council. Within Hawai‘i, Lassner has served on the boards of the Hawai‘i High Technology Development Corporation and Hawai‘i Public Television, and most recently chaired Hawai‘i’s Broadband Task Force.
EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. Its current membership comprises more than 2,200 colleges, universities, and educational organizations, including 250 corporations, with more than 17,000 active members. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation recently announced the $20 million Next Generation Learning Challenges, a collaborative initiative to help dramatically improve college readiness and college completion through the use of technology, which will be led by EDUCAUSE.
