Campus Security officer Patrick Movery was honored as UH Mānoa’s “Top Cop” during the 26th annual Law Enforcement/Security Appreciation Luncheon, held October 5 at the Mānoa Grand Ballroom.
The recognition event is held annually by the Law Enforcement & Security Appreciation Luncheon Steering Committee, which is comprised of chapter presidents of several Hawai‘i-based security associations. Any law enforcement agency, private security agency or association may submit nominations of individuals connected with law enforcement or security.
Officer Movery, who is originally from Jamaica in the West Indies, is a Marine Corps veteran with 19 years of service at UH Mānoa. He was instrumental in thwarting a series of bicycle and moped thefts throughout the campus this past summer, and leads first-aid and CPR training and recertification of officers and personnel in other departments, such as Facilities and Grounds.
“What really distinguishes him, however, is his unselfish commitment to assist our department in using the latest computer technology for our daily security responsibilities,” said Chief Wayne Ogino in his nomination form. “From report-writing to incident trend analysis, Officer Movery has used his self-taught expertise to troubleshoot and fine-tune the systems that we use on a regular basis so the department can be highly efficient.”
