The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa television commercial, titled “One Day,” received a Pele Award in the music score category at the American Advertising Federation (AAF)-Hawai‘i Chapter’s 2010 Pele Awards ceremony held in April. The 30-second piece also received awards of excellence in the cinematography and best commercial divisions.

The commercial highlights the study and research opportunities for students at UH Mānoa with the tagline: “Discover, inspire, innovate, at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa – because every journey begins at home.” The ad features actual UH Mānoa students and staff, and was produced through a joint partnership between 1001 Stories (formerly known as HDOLOGY) and Bluewater Multimedia LLC. Both companies are comprised of a mix of recent graduates and current students of the Academy for Creative Media at the Mānoa campus.

“We’re excited and proud that, not only has this award-winning commercial featured our very own students and faculty, but that UH Mānoa students and graduates were instrumental in producing it,” said UH Mānoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw.

The Pele Awards is the state’s top advertising competition. This year, 520 entries were submitted, with Pele Award winners automatically entered in the national ADDY Awards competition in June.
