Electrical engineering society honored again

UH Mānoa‘s Delta Omega Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the electrical and computer engineering honor society, will receive the Outstanding Chapter Award at its annual induction banquet on Sunday, April 25.
This is the fourth year in a row that the UH Mānoa chapter has won this award, recognizing its contributions to the electrical engineering department, university and surrounding community.
Only 22 out of 175 active university chapters received the Outstanding Chapter Award for the 2008-09 academic year. HKN is a 105-year-old honor society for electrical and computer engineering students and professionals with more than 250,000 members. The UH Mānoa chapter was established in 1963.
"We had a record number of pledges last year that dedicated themselves to academics, character, leadership and service," said Reece Iwami, the 2008-09 Delta Omega Chapter president who led the activities that resulted in the latest award.
Bao Jun Lei, the 2009-10 Delta Omega Chapter president, added, "The qualities we instill in our HKN members help make them better contributors to our community."
"Our chapter has produced several nationally recognized graduates in the past decade, and this award further demonstrates the remarkable achievements of our students," remarked Wayne Shiroma, UH Mānoa professor of electrical engineering and HKN faculty advisor.
