Call for papers at World Congress on Zero Emissions Initiatives

This coming Fall, Honolulu will host a conference with reach and impact of global importance in shaping the environment for years to come. The World Congress on Zero Emissions Initiatives, themed "Launching the Blue Economy," will gather internationally renowned experts who will "focus on design of an economic system driven by innovations, generating jobs and building social capital."

The first such World Congress will take place at the Hawai'i Convention Center on Sept. 13-17, 2010, and every other year will be held again in Hawaiʻi. Alternating years will be held abroad, starting with Japan next year. See http://www.zeroemissionshawaii.org/.

UH Mānoa has committed to playing a significant role in this Congress, and showcasing the leadership in world-class research and education taking place on our campus. Toward that end, and to ensure a coordinated, unified effort to conference organizers, a Steering Committee is inviting ideas or suggestions for papers, presentations, exhibits and sponsorships. Deadline for submittals is Friday, May 7, to Assistant Vice Chancellor and Steering Committee chair Eric Crispin at ecrispin@hawaii.edu.

A limited number of registrations to the conference will be awarded, with priority given to exhibitors and faculty members who submit papers. Additional registrations, as they become available, will be granted to those who justify their requests for attendance based on work being conducted at UH Mānoa in fields related to zero emissions and sustainability.

Members of the Steering Committee are Dean Peter Crouch of the College of Engineering; Dean Brian Taylor of SOEST; Director Gordon Grau of Sea Grant; Dean Clark Llewellyn of the School of Architecture; Professor Steve Meder, Director of the Center for Smart Building and Community Design; and Dean Avi Soifer of the William S. Richardson School of Law.
