The Disability Services Office at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and the University of Hawaiʻi Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity Offices presents The Mythology of Disability on Friday, April 30, 7 p.m. at the East Hawai'i Cultural Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The Mythology of Disability is a unique, artistic presentation that enables others to see the world through the eyes of the disabled. Moderator and UH Hilo student Martin Hodapp will take the audience on a journey into the world of the disabled through the first-hand accounts of individuals who will share their views about living with disabilities.

Vanessa Martinez and Skye Balbren-Dias will perform a signed contemporary song; Caley Kilcorse will express herself through her spirit of dance; Souza will talk about her struggles as a woman of color with an invisible disability; and Dr. Steven Brown, author, advocate and co-founder of the Institute on Disabilities, will regale the audience with stories, music and anecdotes of the more humorous side of disability. Their performances will follow welcoming remarks by UH Hilo Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Luoluo Hong.
