UH Mānoa hosting day of financial literacy education on February 24

UH Mānoa will host its first UH Saves Day on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Purpose of the event is to impart financial literacy to students, faculty and staff through educational workshops, exhibits, and a game show competition testing four student teams on financial concepts.
 
Exhibits will line the Campus Center mall, and educational workshops will be held in mall level rooms on topics such as “How to Spot a Con Artist and Safeguard Your Investment,” “Graduating Debt Free—the 3R’s” and “Repaying Your Student Loan.”

WHERE:        Campus Center mall and rooms on mall level (203A, 203E, 220), UH Mānoa campus
 
WHO:             Exhibitors are Bank of Hawai‘i, UH Federal Credit Union, various State of Hawai‘i
                        Departments, Better Business Bureau Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Homeownership Center,
                        Internal Revenue Service, Financial Aid Office and America Saves.
 
                                        Sponsors are the UH Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, 
                                        Cooperative Extension Service, Campus Center, Office of Undergraduate Education, 
                                        Financial Aid Office, Student Life & Development, Shidler School of Business and
                                        Student Parents at Mānoa.
 
UH Mānoa students graduate with an average debt of $14,818 (Class of 2008), well below the average national debt of $23,200 for graduating seniors with student loans (The Project on Student Debt, 2008).
