KĀNE‘OHE –Gallery ‘Iolani presents Atelier Hawai‘i, an exhibition showcasing the work of students from the Atelier Hawai‘i summer program at Windward Community College over the past eight years since its inception. A special artist reception will be held on September 11 from 4–7 p.m. The exhibit will run until October 2. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Atelier Hawai‘i is the only workshop of its kind in the state that provides six weeks of intensive training in the same classical techniques of drawing and painting inspired by the traditional Italian atelier, or studio, approach to art education that developed in Europe during the 19th century. Portraiture and the human figure are the focus of instruction. Under the direction of Snowden Hodges and Norman Graffam, and guest artist Jonathan Busse, participants develop skills in sight-size/observational drawing and learn oil painting techniques used by the great European Masters.
