UH Hilo Offers Summer Program to Help Kick-Start Students' University Careers
University of Hawaiʻi at HiloThe Student Support Services Program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is offering a Summer Start Program during the first two weeks of June 2002 to help incoming students plan and prepare for successful university careers. Students transferring to UH Hilo, adults returning to school after some years in the home or workplace, and first generation students may qualify for this free program. The deadline for application is Friday, May
24.
"The program will give enrolled students a clear idea of what to expect of university life," said Caroline Garrett, director of the student support services program. "They will get to know staff, faculty and other students at UH Hilo. They will also learn where to find the resources they will need to succeed.
"The summer program is lively, challenging, fun, and guaranteed to gear students up for their university experience," she added.
The program includes sessions on motivation, planning and goal setting, and exploring the UH Hilo campus. Students will also get individual advising on their academic plan, registration, library and resource center usage, and resume writing.
