UH Army ROTC Hosts Governor's Day Awards Ceremony

The University of Hawaii Army ROTC program will host a joint Senior and Junior ROTC Governor's Day Awards Ceremony and Pass-in-Review on Thursday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at Les Murakami Baseball Stadium on the UH Manoa campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Lieutenant Governor Mazie Hirono will represent Governor Cayetano in presenting awards to the top UH ROTC and High School JROTC cadets from throughout the state. The Deputy Commanding General of ROTC, Brigadier General William Feyk, along with UH Manoa Interim Chancellor Deanne Neubauer and State Superintendant of Schools Pat Hamamoto will assist Lt. Gov. Hirono in the presentations. Afterwards, nearly 900 cadets representing 27 JROTC programs and the UH Army and Air Force Senior ROTC programs will march in review to the marching music provided by the 25th Infantry Divison "Tropic Lightning" Band.

Army ROTC at UH is 81 years old. The program is ranked number 4 of 270 ROTC programs nationwide in production and is amongst the top 15 percent in overall program quality. The mission of Senior ROTC is to commission the Army's future officer leadership. Junior ROTC is a large program in Hawaii with 27 high schools currently offering the program and many more interested in offering it. The mission of Junior ROTC is to produce better citizens.
