At its monthly meeting held today, the University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents (BOR) approved an amendment to the Board of Regents‘ By-laws and Policies, "Guidelines for Employment of Coaches in the Major Intercollegiate Sports," Section 9-2f(2)(b), to update the remaining salary ranges for coaching positions that were not addressed at the July 2007 BOR meeting when several salary ranges for coaches were adjusted. The intent of the adjustment and update is to ensure the UH Mānoa Athletics program remains competitive and salaries are comparable with NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) programs.
The Athletics Department requested to amend the salary ranges for coaches based on the survey of salaries as reported by the 2006 Division I-A Athletic Directors‘ Association national salary survey, which is the most widely used measure of market competitive salaries. The salary ranges are based on the 25th to 75th percentiles of the national data. The survey data used for this recommendation, while being the most recently available, is already one year old.
The amendment adjusted the following annual coaching salaries:

In other action, the BOR approved an exception to Board of Regents policy that will provide additional supplemental compensation totaling $8,000 per person for 8 members of the 2007 football coaching and administrative staff. This additional supplemental compensation is outside of existing BOR Policy.
The request was due to the generous donation from the June Jones Foundation via the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation. Donors wanted to provide additional compensation to recognize staff members for their exceptional work and outstanding performance which led the University of Hawaiʻi Football Program to the only undefeated regular season among 119 Football Bowl Subdivision teams.
