University of Hawaii Community Colleges receive positive report from accreditation commission

The community colleges of the University of Hawaiʻi system received good news from the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) after a team visited the colleges last fall for a follow-up review. The resulting ACCJC evaluation report reaffirmed the many advances made in improving the effectiveness of the new community college organization and governance structure.

In summary, the report commended the UH system for its progress in strategic planning in the form of becoming more data driven and being more inclusive of the community colleges. Evaluation team members reported that the environment has never been more open and participatory than it is now, and believe that the new structure is working well.

Vice President for Community Colleges John Morton said, "The positive report of the accreditation commission is the result of the dedicated work of many throughout the community college system."

"We have been and will continue to work to ensure that our 26,000 students receive the best possible education while meeting all requirements of our accreditors," he said.

A Midterm Report is due to the ACCJC by Oct. 15, 2009. The next comprehensive evaluation of University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges will occur in fall 2012. The ACCJC report and letter may be viewed in its entirety at CC Academic Affairs web page at http://www.hawaii.edu/offices/cc/resources.html.
