University of Hawaiʻi Professor Honored for Oceanography and Climate Change Research

HONOLULU- University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa oceanography professor Dr. Lorenz Magaard was recently awarded the title of Marine Technology Society Fellow during the Ocean 2001 Conference held in Honolulu.

Magaard was presented the award by Dr. Andrew Clark, president of the Marine Technology Society, and was recognized for his valuable contributions to the study of global climate change and for his excellence in promoting marine science and technology at the university level.

Magaard is the executive associate director of the International Pacific Research Center, a climate research center at the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology. His research interests are ocean waves, oceanic turbulence and oceanography of the Hawaiian waters. Magaard is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Geological Union, American Meteorological Society, Marine Technology Society, The Oceanography Society, and the Hawaii Academy of Science an organization in which he served as president from 1988-1989.

The Marine Technology Society and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers jointly sponsored the Ocean 2001 Conference. Dr. Magaard served as chairman of the Technical Program Committee of Ocean 2001.
