Students interested in teaching as a career invited to information session at Leeward Community College

Campus to offer new Associate in Arts in Teaching program

PEARL CITY, Oʻahu — High school students interested in teaching as a career and others who may be interested in making a career change are invited to a free public information session to learn about the new Associate in Arts in Teaching (AAT) Program at Leeward Community College (LCC). The session will be held on Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. in room PS 210B on the LCC campus.

The new AAT Program is a two-year associate degree program designed for students interested in pursuing a teaching degree in elementary or secondary education. New cohorts will begin the program in Fall 2006 and Spring 2007, with each limited to 25 students. The AAT Program allows students to jump start their study of education by offering education courses and field experiences during their first and second years of study.

Graduates of the AAT Program will be able to seek employment as a paraprofessional in K-12 education or transfer to a baccalaureate program in elementary or secondary education. The LCC AAT Program currently has articulation agreements with Chaminade University and City University (Bellevue, Wash.), and is in the process of forming agreements with UH West Oʻahu, which will begin a new baccalaureate program in elementary education in Fall 2007, and UH Mānoa.
