This April, the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR) is inviting the community to explore how Hawaiʻi can grow stronger—through agriculture, innovation and shared purpose.

Held from April 10–12 at UH Mānoa and other various locations, the second annual CTAHR conference’s theme, He ʻAʻaliʻi Kū Makani: Resilience through Innovation—pays tribute to the ʻaʻaliʻi, a native plant known for thriving in tough conditions. Like this hardy shrub, CTAHR believes Hawaiʻi’s communities, farms and ʻohana can grow stronger with the right support.

Sessions will spotlight projects such as battling the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle, early invasive species identification, and child care and healthy aging.

“The conference will be an excellent opportunity for people to learn and collaborate on shared values: a more resilient Hawaiʻi filled with abundant local agriculture; with more local entrepreneurs driving our economy and creating jobs for our keiki and neighbors; and with more support for local families and communities, empowering everyone to thrive in our islands,” said CTAHR Dean Parwinder Grewal.

A key highlight will be honoring U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono with the Ka Lei Hano Leadership Award at the closing reception, in addition to all the winners of the CTAHR Dean’s awards.

Registration ranges from $25 to $250 depending on the activity. Proceeds will help students attend the conference and support the CTAHR Scholarship Fund.

The conference is sponsored by CTAHR Alumni Association & Friends, Green Point Nurseries, Adela’s Country Eatery, Bayer, Ulupono Initiative and Kualoa Ranch.
