WHAT: University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s research on some of Hawaiʻi's most pressing issues: environmental conservation, sustainability, health and wellbeing, AI technology, Hawaiian language and culture, food security, climate change and more were showcased at the third annual UH Mānoa Research Day at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol. Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff across a variety of different disciplines participated.
This year’s research day theme was UH Mānoa Research and Creative Works for the Wellbeing of Current and Future Generations.
Researchers and students delivered presentations, hosted informational tables and conducted interactive activities on the 4th floor and in the auditorium of the State Capitol. Some of the research projects included: cultivating resilience in a changing climate, the science of extreme weather, preserving our natural heritage through conservation of Hawaiian plants, community and student engagement in Hawai‘i’s food system, and dozens more.

WHO: More than 100 UH Mānoa students, researchers, faculty and staff participated.
WHY: Hawaiʻi lawmakers and representatives were invited to engage with UH Mānoa students, faculty and staff to learn about the wide variety of initiatives and the impact research has on our communities.

Note: Young’s project is on breastfeeding for Native Hawaiians. Her goal is to talk with Native Hawaiian moms who are hāpai (pregnant) to get a better understanding of how their perceptions changed prior to pregnancy about breastfeeding and then postpartum how they interpret breastfeeding after they experienced it.
