The University of Hawaiʻi is hosting a Virtual IT and Intelligence Career Fair on Friday, October 14, 10 a.m.–1 p.m., to help students explore career options with local employers in the IT and intelligence sectors.

The event is targeted for graduating or recently graduated students who will have the opportunity to engage online with employers recruiting for current positions and internships in Hawai‘i’s emerging IT and intelligence fields in various skill areas such as accounting, business, computer science, cybersecurity, data science, economics, engineering and project management.

“The University of Hawai‘i is excited to once again coordinate this event to connect our students and graduates with our local employers,” said Alan Ito, UH IT workforce development and regulated policy lead. “We remain committed to building a strong IT and Intelligence workforce pipeline and ensuring we have workers with the right skills needed to fill these in-demand, high paying jobs in Hawai‘i.”

Last spring, more than 45 employers and 250 students participated in the inaugural event. More than 55 interviews took place between students and employers and more than 200 resumes were uploaded onto the event platform for employers to access.

“This event gave us the opportunity to recruit for the many positions we have available right here at home,” said Maverick Fernandes, who is with Kamehameha Schools’ information security office. “As a result, we were able to connect with potential candidates and we were successful in hiring an intern with the right skill-set and talent to join our growing team.”

This event is just one way that Hawai‘i companies are partnering with UH to create ways to better prepare students for their future jobs along with training, mentoring and internships.
