UH Hilo honors employees, student at 2022 End of Year Awards event

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo recently honored recipients of various UH Hilo and UH System awards at its 2022 End of Year Awards Ceremony, held on campus May 5. The event also recognized retired employees and faculty and staff for various years of service as of December 31, 2021.

This year’s award recipients are:

• Sheadon Freitas, Office of the Registrar, Student Employee of the Year
• Women’s and LGBTQ+ Center, Student Employee Team of the Year
• Dr. Bryan Kim, Professor of Psychology, UH Board of Regents Excellence in Teaching
• Dr. Tarisi Vunidilo, Assistant Professor, Anthropology, Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching
• Susan Wackerbarth Oldfather, Instructor, English, Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching
• Kea Kapahua, Lecturer in Dance, College of Arts and Sciences, Koichi and Taniyo Taniguchi Award for Excellence and Innovation
• William Walters, Director, Auxiliary Services, Excellence in Building & Grounds Maintenance Award
• Matthew Kalahiki, Administrative and Fiscal Support, Campus Center, Distinguished Service Award for Improving Student Life
• Dr. Seri Luangphinith, Professor of English, Pūlama ʻIke Award
• Dr. Comfort Sumida, Senior Advisor, Advising Center, Excellence in Service Award
