UH Mānoa in top 1% in the world for academic, research excellence

A newly announced academic and research ranking places the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa within the top 1% of all universities worldwide. The 2021 Aggregate Ranking of Top Universities (ARTU), released on January 18, combines three of the most influential global rankings to form its ranking.

UH’s flagship campus ranked No. 66 in the U.S. and No. 259 globally out of more than 26,000 colleges and universities worldwide. ARTU combines UH Mānoa’s rankings by Times Higher Education, Quacquarelli Symonds and Academic Ranking of World Universities.

ARTU, now in its third year, was created by the University of New South Wales. Rankings of more than 2,000 universities were analyzed for the 2021 ARTU update, which identified the top 400 global universities.

Times Higher Education, Quacquarelli Symonds and Academic Ranking of World Universities utilized more than a dozen different metrics combined, including academic reputation, highly cited researchers, student engagement, graduation rates and diversity.

“UH Mānoa is regularly recognized as among the top research universities in the world. This aggregate ranking confirms our standing in a very strong and public fashion, and is a reflection of the continued remarkable achievements of our faculty, staff and students,” UH Mānoa Provost Michael Bruno said.
