Finalists for Dean's position at UH Manoa Nursing School invited to campus for meetings, interviews

Finalists for the position of Dean of the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa‘s School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) have been identified. Interviews and campus visits have been scheduled beginning next week.

"Our search advisory committee has moved quickly to fill this critical leadership position," said Chancellor Peter Englert. "We are pleased with the caliber of the candidates and look forward to having them meet with professional health care leaders and the campus community this month."

Richard Meiers, President and CEO, Healthcare Association of Hawaiʻi, chaired the search advisory committee. "The health care community has a big stake in the success of nursing and other health sciences programs at the university, and our committee clearly recognizes this. We are pleased to recommend three outstanding candidates to the Chancellor for his consideration."

The finalists are:

Mary G. Boland — Associate Dean for Community Programs, Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Professor of Community Nursing, University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey School of Nursing. Professor Boland earned a BS in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, an MS in Nursing Care of Children and a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certificate at Seton Hall University. She received a Doctorate in Public Health in Sociomedical Sciences from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

Mary Lou de Leon Siantz — Professor and Associate Dean, Special Populations, Director, Milagros Center of Excellence in Migrant Health, Georgetown University. Professor Siantz holds a BS in Nursing from Mount St. Mary‘s College, a Master‘s in Nursing in Community Mental Health Child Psychiatric Nursing, Maternal and Child Health from UCLA, and a Ph.D. in Human Development from the University of Maryland.

Beatrice Crofts Yorker — Director and Professor, School of Nursing, San Francisco State University. Professor Yorker received her BS in Nursing from Indiana University, an MS in Nursing in Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco, and a JD degree from the Georgia State University College of Law.

Each of the candidates will visit the Manoa campus for meetings beginning next week, and each has been scheduled for a public presentation as follows:

Mary Lou de Leon Siantz — Monday, April 25

Beatrice Crofts Yorker — Wednesday, April 27.

All presentations are scheduled for Webster Hall, Room 205, from 4:30 — 5:30 p.m.A reception will follow the presentation.
