UH Manoa Center on Disability Studies director receives outstanding achievement award

HONOLULU — Dr. Robert Stodden, director of the Center on Disability Studies in the College of Education at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, was named the recipient of the Association of University Centers of Excellence‘s 2004 Outstanding Achievement Award.

The award was presented at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) 2004 annual meeting and conference in Bethesda, Md., where Stodden was recognized for his outstanding leadership in the areas of disability instruction, scholarship, research and community and public service.

A past president of the AUCD board of directors, Stodden is professionally trained in psychology, special education and rehabilitation, and has served more than 25 years as a national leader in the fields of special education, school to adult transition, postsecondary education and employment for persons with disabilities. He has been a principal director or investigator for more than 100 research and training projects focused on improving the quality of life for all persons of disabilities.

AUCD is a network of interdisciplinary centers advancing policy and practice for and with individuals with developmental and other disabilities, their families, and communities. Its members represent every state and most territories in the USA and over 200 universities and medical schools.
