Congratulations to Dr. Sladjana Prišić: Recipient of the 2025 OVPRS Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research & Creative Work

We are proud to announce that Dr. Sladjana Prišić, associate professor of microbiology in the School of Life Sciences, has received the prestigious 2025 OVPRS Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research & Creative Work. This award, established by UH Mānoa’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, recognizes faculty who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to mentoring undergraduates in research and creative work.

Dr. Prišić’s research at UH Mānoa focuses on zinc signaling and alternative ribosomes. Drawing from her international background and diverse research experiences, she has mentored 55 undergraduates over the past decade, including 19 UROP awardees and eight Honors students. Dr. Prišić is known for adapting her mentorship style to each student’s needs, equipping them with the skills and confidence necessary for future success. As one student shared, “I went from knowing nothing about research to being comfortable leading my own project and writing papers. Dr. Prišić respects her undergraduates and gives us opportunities to take responsibility for our learning.”
