Benefits of Hawai’i Accounting Research Doctoral Institute (HARDI)

Ph.D. students: Admitted Ph.D. students would be exposed to top researchers from around the world. They will also be joining an extensive research network that will play a significant role in their future research. The network will include the faculty of SOA of the Shidler, their fellow Ph.D. students from around the globe, and four or more influential researchers from around the world. It is also expected that by attending the program, students will have developed a workable research idea/proposal that is practically relevant.

Professors who lead the students: These professors will have the opportunity to influence a large group of excellent Ph.D. students from around the world. This program will also create a network of connections that enhance the opportunity for faculty (and their doctoral students at their institutions) to research with a diverse group of students from different parts of the world.

The HARDI Academic Committee and the Professional Advisory Board: The Committee and the Board will help to shape the future of accounting research worldwide. Assuming that 20 students attend each HARDI program annually, and given that each student is active in research for 30 years after graduation, each HARDI program offering will influence 600 faculty-years of research. Consequently, this program is poised to have a substantial impact on accounting research around the world.

The School of Accountancy and Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa will contribute to accounting research: Indirectly, the Institute will create alumni who perpetuate the high standards of the Shidler College/School of Accountancy throughout their career. Like other alumni, HARDI alumni will contribute to the Shidler College/SOA and its objectives in many ways. HARC will become their homecoming place.
