David Burgstahler is the President of the American Accounting Association (2016-17), and is the Julius A. Roller Professor of Accounting at the University of Washington. David has taught at the University of Washington since 1981, where he previously served as Acting Dean in the School of Business and Associate Dean for Masters Programs and Executive Education. He earned his Ph.D. from The University of Iowa. David has published widely in peer-reviewed journals including The Accounting Review, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Issues in Accounting Education, and Contemporary Accounting Research. He is currently an Editor of The Accounting Review, serves on the Editorial Board of Journal of Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting, and served as Associate Editor (1997-2000) and Editorial Board Member (2000-04) of Accounting Horizons, The Accounting Review (1983-86) and (1992-2003), Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory (multiple years) and on the Editorial Board of several other peer-reviewed journals.
David has over thirty years experience teaching, has served on over fifty Ph.D. Supervisory Committees, thirty Doctoral Dissertation Reading Committees, and has presented his research at over sixty-five conferences. He has received numerous awards for teaching excellence and is the recipient of the University of Washington’s Schoeller Senior Fellow (2014-15), AAA’s Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature Award (2002), Beta Alpha Psi Professor of the Year (multiple years) and has been awarded numerous faculty fellowships and research grants.

Mike McGuire is the chief executive officer of Grant Thornton LLP. McGuire has more than 30 years of experience working closely with high-growth, startup and middle-market companies in a variety of industries, including technology, services, construction, manufacturing, venture capital, distribution, retail and franchising. He has significant experience in capital markets transactions ranging from angel investing to initial public offerings. He has advised numerous companies in a variety of industries on M&A strategies, due diligence and deal structure.
Most recently, he served as national managing partner – operations. Previously, McGuire served as the national managing partner of Markets, Industry, People & Culture and served as the managing partner of the firm’s Carolinas offices, which includes offices in Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., and Columbia, S.C.

She is an attorney with a background in securities, corporate, regulatory, constitutional and other legal matters.

Andres Vinelli

Chief Economist, Standards and Risk Assessment, Office of Economic and Risk Analysis
Andres Vinelli is the chief economist of standards and risk assessment in the Office of Economic and Risk Analysis. In this role, he leads the team of economists dedicated to standard-setting activities and continues to provide analysis on work in areas including risk assessment, accounting firm business models, and audit quality indicators. From 2008-2014 he served as deputy director and chief economist in Office of Research and Analysis where he identified areas of audit risk in the audits of exchange-listed companies and conducted original research on accounting and auditing topics.
Prior to joining the PCAOB in 2008, he was the chief economist at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Earlier, his roles included director of the Office of Economic Analysis and special assistant to the chairman and chief executive officer of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), the predecessor agency to FINRA. During his seven years at FINRA (NASD), he assisted in the implementation of the regulator’s investor protection mission, including regulatory oversight of Nasdaq, crafting broker-dealer rules, and coordinating with domestic and foreign counterparts.
Vinelli spent four years as a research assistant at Harvard University, and a year at Monsanto Argentina as a business analyst. He also worked as a summer associate over several years at Price Waterhouse Asociados, Argentina, NERA Economic Consulting, and Shell UK Ltd.
Vinelli is the author of many publications in the United States and Argentina. Presently, he teaches MBA classes at Georgetown University, where he earned the 2007 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Faculty teaching. He received his undergraduate degree from the Universidad de San Andres, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Roger Debreceny

Roger Debreceny teaches accounting, auditing and accounting information systems. His research interests are in IT governance, information systems auditing and assurance, corporate reporting and disclosure particularly on the Internet and XBRL. He has published more than fifty peer-reviewed papers. He serves on several editorial boards and recently completed his term as Senior Editor of the Journal of Information Systems. Prior to academia, he held senior management positions in business and government.

Dr. Sridhar Ramamoorti, ACA, CPA/CITP/CFF/CGMA, CIA, CFE, CFSA, CGAP, CGFM, CRMA, CRP, MAFF, is and Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Dayton, Ohio. Previously, he was an Associate Professor of Accounting and a Director with the Corporate Governance Center, Michael J. Coles College of Business, at Kennesaw State University.Dr. Ramamoorti has a unique, blended academic-practitioner background with over 30 years of experience in academia, auditing, and consulting. He was previously on the University of Illinois’ Accountancy Faculty, and was a principal with Andersen Worldwide, EY National Sarbanes Oxley Advisor, a corporate governance partner at Grant Thornton, and a principal with Infogix, Inc., all in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Ramamoorti has published over 40 academic and professional articles, co-authored 15 books and monographs, and has been a speaker in 15 countries.Active in the profession, Dr. Ramamoorti completed a 3-year term on the prestigious Standing Advisory Group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. He continues serving as a Trustee of the Financial Executives Research Foundation (FERF) and as a member of the Litigation Forensics Board of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA).

Bharat Sarath

After completing his Ph.D in mathematics at the University of Calgary in 1976 and his Ph.D. in Accountancy in 1988 from Stanford, Dr. Sarath has taught at NYU, Baruch, and Rutgers where he is currently a Professor of Accountancy. He has published in many leading journals including Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, and Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance where he is currently Editor. In addition to English he is fluent in Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit, Russian and Farsi.

Sudipta Basu

Dr. Sudipta Basu is Professor of Accounting at Fox School of Business in Temple University. His research on the effects of conservatism and other accounting principles on the properties of reported earnings and analysts’ earnings forecasts was published in Journal of Accounting and Economics; Journal of Accounting Research; Review of Accounting Studies; and Journal of Business Finance and Accounting.
His research on the origins and evolution of accounting appears in Accounting and Business Research; Accounting Historians Journal; Accounting Horizons; Accounting, Organizations and Society; Foundations and Trends in Accounting; and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA (PNAS). The American Accounting Association (AAA) recognized his research with the 2012 Distinguished Contribution to Accounting Literature Award and the 2011 and 2007 Accounting Horizons Best Paper Awards. Sudipta is an Associate Editor or Editorial Board member of The Accounting Review; Contemporary Accounting Research; Journal of Business Finance and Accounting; Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance; Australian Journal of Management; Journal of Law, Finance and Accounting; Accounting, Economics and Law; and China Journal of Accounting Research. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. at the University of Rochester; M.B.A. at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta; and B.A. (Honours) in Economics at the University of Delhi. Sudipta taught previously at Emory University and Baruch College, City University of New York. He currently teaches Cost Accounting to undergraduates and Capital Markets Research to doctoral students.
