Modeling

Promoting children’s learning through observation.

Leaf Printing

Campus Children’s Center
Age of Students: 3-4 years

The teacher explicitly models for a small group of children the process of selecting leaves and the steps for leaf printing. The children are then given an opportunity to practice printing on their own while the teacher provides needed assistance. The teacher encourages one child to explain the newly learned printing process to 2 children new to the activity.

Cooking Ramen

Campus Children’s Center
Age of Students: 4-5 years

The teacher physically and verbally assists a small group of children with cutting ingredients and other tasks to prepare the ramen. The teacher explicitly models for the children by talking them through the process. The teacher uses one child as a model by bringing attention to the way he is cutting the green onion.
