We just held our first Virtual Career Fair! Thank you to everyone who participated in the sessions. We hope you were able to learn and network with our presenters. Mahalo to the presenters for giving our students job and internship opportunities during this time.

Our Virtual Career Fair was held from June 30-July 2 via Zoom. Our presenters shared about their company and the career opportunities that they offer. Then, students were able to ask questions through the chat box to get more information about the company or opportunities that were presented. The last 30 minutes of the session allowed students to have a one-to-one session with the presenters upon request to ask further questions and network.

I was able to attend a few of the sessions to learn about their company and opportunities that they offer. The experience was different from a normal, in-person career fair, but I was still able to learn a lot about these opportunities and what companies look for in their employees.

Here are some things I learned the career and internship opportunities these companies offer:

FBI

The FBI offers an Honors Internship program every summer. This 10 week programs offers students a chance to explore the different career options in the FBI and work with current FBI employees. When applying for the internship, students are allowed to list their top six Field Office or Headquarter locations, giving them an opportunity to experience a new place over the summer. Their internship program is also an automatic renewable internship, meaning students are able to intern with the FBI every summer until they notify them. For more information on their internships and career opportunities, visit the FBI job site.

Hawaii Public Housing

The Hawaii Public Housing Authority offers internships throughout the year. Many of their interns did work in construction or IT, but they are flexible with your interests and they can help you find your best fit in their company. Their main tip was to have your resume ready. Including a simple cover letter and making sure your resume is ready to go will help you when applying for an internship with them. Career wise, applicants need some property management experience before applying for certain positions. For job listings and contact information, visit the Hawaii Public Housing Authority page.

The Plaza Assisted Living

The Plaza Assisted Living was proud to share that they were offering career opportunities during quarantine. With multiple locations throughout the island, the Plaza offers a variety of positions such as Activities Assistant, Resident Care Aides, and Cooks. The Plaza also offers internships for students of different majors, but all internships spots are currently filled. Visit The Plaza Assisted Living website for all of their current career opportunities.

Overall, this Virtual Career Fair experience was memorable and helpful during this time of transition. We hope everyone enjoyed the sessions that they attended and got helpful information from it.

For those who couldn’t attend or missed a certain session, we will be posting the information from all of the sessions soon!
