Derek (he/him/his) was born and raised in Poway, California. He has BAs in English and
Spanish with a minor in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. He completed his MA in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Maryland and a PhD in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He came to UH after working at the University of Nevada, Reno and has worked in academic advising for nearly all of his higher education experience.
He enjoys nearly all sports and volunteering for community service programs.
