The University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Academic Excellence & Student Success Committee (AESSC) provides recommendations to the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence (VPAE), Vice Provost for Student Success (VPSS), and Vice Provost for Enrollment Management on policies and procedures related to academic standards and support services.
The mission of AESSC is to unify the campus, promote consistency and fairness to students regarding academic policies and procedures, and improve students’ educational experience at UH Mānoa.
Specifically, AESSC responsibilities include:
Implementing Existing Policies and Procedures:
- Facilitate communication, coordination, and implementation of campus and system academic policies and procedures
- Interpret policies and procedures to promote consistency in implementation across campus
- Answer questions and resolve problems relating to uniform and consistent implementation of academic policies across units within the campus and among campuses within the system
Reviewing Existing Policies & Procedures:
- Review, research, and gather feedback on existing policies and procedures
- Make recommendations to modify existing policies and procedures to the VPAE and VPSS
Proposing New Policies & Procedures:
- Propose new policies or procedures as needed
- Review, research, gather feedback on, and make recommendations for changes to new policies or procedures proposed by other entities
Promoting Professional Growth:
- Support professional development for campus constituents who provide academic and student services
Areas of particular concern to AESSC include admissions, student records, transfer and articulation of credits, degree certification, technology, academic actions, student classification, exemptions, waivers, fees, financial aid, deadlines, student orientation, recruitment/retention activities, and campus-wide and system-wide student information systems.
