Academic Support

In addition to the options available in most classes (i.e. professors’ office hours, teaching assistants, study groups), the University of Hawaii at Manoa has many resources for students who want extra tutorial help.

The Learning Emporium

Housed in the Bilger Addition, the Learning Emporium helps students in introductory-level mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physics courses. Tutors at the emporium range from undergraduate students to volunteer faculty, so there is a vast amount of knowledge and experience available.

Student Success Center

The Student Success Center provides information and skills to help students be successful in their courses. It is a place for students to work with faculty, librarians, mentors, and tutors to meet individual learning needs. The Sinclair Library, as host to The Student Success Center, provides a learning environment that meets the space, computing, and information needs of students and those who work with them.

Learning Assistance Center

The Learning Assistance Center, as part of the Student Success Center, helps you develop effective study strategies that will motivate you to get the grade you want. There are individual tutors and group tutor sessions in subjects that many students find difficult: chemistry, math, biology, economics, and writing. They also offer workshops to learn how to manage time, read more effectively, take better notes, and do better on exams. If you think you may have a learning disability, the Learning Assistance Center provides initial screening and support to cope with learning problems.

Call, email, or visit the Learning Assistance center website to access their online appointment system.
