Catch Merrie Monarch award-winner Chinky Mahoe and multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano winners Keauhou, Maunalua, Hiʻikua and Pomaikaʻi Keawe Lyman at the 18th Annual Windward Hoʻolauleʻa on the Great Lawn at Windward Community College on Saturday, September 29, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Also in the entertainment line-up are Beat-Lele, an ʻukulele tribute to the Beatles and the Kahaluʻu Elementary School ʻUkulele Band and more local area talent.
The free, family-friendly, festival coordinated by Windward CC and the Kaneohe Business Group, is expected to draw more than 10,000 people. It will feature unique arts and crafts, ʻono ethnic foods, hot rods by Clyde’s Auto Showcase, keiki rides and activities, a gallery exhibit, an Imaginarium show, a college-sponsored silent auction, and educational, cultural demonstrations and community displays. This year’s theme is “Hawaiian Traditions.”
“Windward Hoʻolauleʻa is THE homegrown celebration that brings people together on our beautiful campus…with a full day of amazing island entertainment,” said event chair Bonnie Beatson. “We’re very grateful for the tremendous community support of this event highlighting the talent and businesses of the Windward side as well as the educational opportunities at Windward CC. This support is good for our community—Windward CC students will receive scholarships from event proceeds.”
Supporting the event are flagship sponsors Kamehameha Schools, Hawaiian Electric Companies, HD&CHawaiʻi (formerly Ameron Hawaii) and GoKailua Magazine.
