Educational activities will be enlivened with games and prizes at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Condom Fair 2013 on Thursday, February 14, from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Campus Center Mall. The event is sponsored by the Health Promotion Office at University Health Services. Approximately 2,000 students are expected to attend this year’s fair.

Condom Fair 2013 will feature educational activities such as the Condom Race and “Pin the Condom on Jack.” In conjunction, the UH Mānoa Women’s Center will be hosting a “One Billion Rising” event to raise awareness about violence against women through dancing.  Prizes and giveaways will include condom roses, condom lollipops, educational materials, candies, and other fun Valentine’s Day items.

This year, event participants are: Planned Parenthood, Bone Marrow Registry of Hawaii,  Coalition for Tobacco-Free Hawaii, Public Health Hui, Life Foundation, Waikīkī Health Center, Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi, American Cancer Society, UH Mānoa  Financial Literacy Program, UH Mānoa Women’s Center and UH Mānoa’s Counseling & Development Center.  KTUH will provide entertainment.

The purpose of the Condom Fair is to promote a healthier lifestyle through the appropriate and consistent use of condoms, healthy sexual decision-making, and good communication.  The Condom Fair is not meant to promote sexual activity; however for students who do choose to be sexually active, condoms are the safest way to protect against sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies.  Condom Fair 2013 is designed to educate students about healthy relationships in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
