During the months of May and June 2013, a cross-sectional survey was conducted in Nanchang, China to see determine caretaker’s of children ages 2 to 10 views towards air pollution and its effects on their children.  This study was collaboration between the Office of Public Health Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and Nanchang University.  Public Health graduate students worked together collecting data at Childhood Clinics, the Nanchang Children’s Hospital, and a kindergarten.

This two month experience was the first time students from University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and Nanchang University students interacted.  Cross-cultural sharing took place on a daily basis and benefited students from both schools.  In addition to conducting a complete survey study, the Nanchang students and faculty were gracious hosts.  Faculty and students were treated to Nanchang cuisine, history, and culture.  The practicum experience in China is another example of a public health student at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa sharing the ideals of living pono and promoting Public Health.
