The UH Department of Psychiatry is dedicated to providing outstanding clinical services for individuals of all ages who are living with mental illness. We are the largest provider of psychiatric services in Hawai‘i.  We provide psychiatric team care coverage and service line leadership for The Queen’s Medical Center. Our current services include Emergency Department, Consultation-Liaison, Adult/Child/Adolescent Inpatient, Adult/Child/Adolescent Day Treatment, and Outpatient.

We also provide services for the other major healthcare systems in the State, including Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, Straub Clinic and Hospital, the Veteran’s Administration, Oahu Community Correctional Center, Kuakini Medical Center, Kāhi Mōhala, Hawaiʻi Department of Health Clinics, and local nursing facilities. Our spectrum of services also extends into the community to all age groups. In this role, our faculty and residents often care for the most vulnerable patients and populations in Hawaiʻi.

About 25% of people will experience a mental health issue of some kind over their lifetime. Mental illness encompasses everything from depression and anxiety to psychosis to substance abuse. Mental health challenges often occur with chronic medical diseases & can substantially worsen associated health outcomes. Many people suffer from mental illness, often in silence, and don’t receive the treatment they need to live healthy and productive lives. If mental health issues are not effectively treated, they can impair self-care, increase mortality and lead to decreased work productivity while substantially increasing overall healthcare costs. We strive to deliver accessible, best-practice mental health and well-being services and treatments.
