Professor Deen gives plenary address at BUCLD 48

Professor Kamil Deen was invited to give the plenary address at the 48th Annual Meeting of the Boston University Conference on Language Development, November 2-5, 2023.

Professor Deen’s address was titled “The Fingerprints of Universal Grammar.” The abstract of his talk is below:

One key argument for innate, language-specific knowledge (aka Universal Grammar) is the Problem of Induction. I
present evidence from a variety of typologically distinct languages that inform us on different facets of the Problem
of Induction, where child behavior deviates from the input in UG-predicted ways. Each case by itself is indicative of
innate, language-specific biases, but taken together provide a far more compelling argument.

Congratulations, Professor Deen!
