The Linguistic Society of Mānoa

The Linguistic Society of Mānoa (LSM) is the organization of linguistics students and faculty at the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa. LSM participates in the International Conference on Language Documentation and Conservation (ICLDC), student conferences on campus, sponsors various social events, and holds fundraisers during the academic year.

LSM serves to represent Linguistics students in organizations such as the Graduate Student Organization (GSO) and with a student representative at faculty meetings. In order to best serve students, LSM also publishes a new students’ handbook every academic year.

LSM aims to support the members of the Linguistics department, including faculty and both graduate and undergraduate students interested in Linguistics.  Membership dues are collected each academic year and are $0 for undergraduate students, $15 for graduate students, and $35 for faculty.

LSM holds meetings twice each semester which are announced via the linguistics emailing list and on our Facebook page. LSM is entirely run by students, and officers are elected each academic year.
