Program student learning outcomes (SLOs) describe how students can demonstrate their mastery of program goals. Students gain experience in these areas through coursework, supervised research, and teaching.
M.A Program
- Identify and demonstrate understanding of language patterns across a broad range of languages in written papers and oral presentations.
- Demonstrate understanding of theoretical issues in the current literature in the area of specialization in written papers and oral presentations. Critically assess current theories or findings in the area of specialization in written papers
- and oral presentations.
- Demonstrate understanding of research methods and/or analysis techniques in the current literature in the area of specialization in written papers and oral presentations.
- Apply current research methods and/or analysis techniques to original research in the area of specialization.
Ph.D. Program

- Apply current research methods and/or analysis techniques to original research in the area of specialization with minimal supervision from a faculty advisor.
- Teach general introductory courses, such as Ling 102, setting one’s own curriculum.
- Teach within one’s area of expertise within linguistics.
