Dr. Drechsel & Dr. Makuakāne-Drechsel celebrated by UH Foundation
Linguists Dr. Emanuel Drechsel and Dr. Teresa Makuakāne-Drechsel, who have been ardent and enthusiastic supporters of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, were recently celebrated in an article by the UH Foundation, which describes their generous gifts that honor their family and Hawaiian culture.
In 2022, Dr. Drechsel and Dr. Makuakāne-Drechsel established the Drechsel-Hubbard Endowed Fellowship for Indigenous Language-Culture Research, which supports doctoral students in the Department of Linguistics whose research supports Indigenous languages, especially Polynesian languages and those of North America. The couple also founded the Daniel and Lydia Makuakāne Endowed Fund for students at Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani School of Hawaiian Language at UH Hilo.
Congratulations on this acknowledgement of your deeply profound support for Indigenous languages, Manny and Teresa!
