Flying to Hawaiʻi

Flying Into Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (Honolulu, Oʻahu,)

To attend the 2024 WINHEC AGM in Hawaiʻi, fly into the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) located in Honolulu, Oʻahu. HNL is the largest airport in Hawaiʻi. You can access retail stores, dining options, bars, a currency exchange, automated teller machines, a post office, car rental agencies, and much more. The airport is about 9 miles away (15-20 minutes by car) from the meeting venue which is the ʻAlohilani Resort Waikīkī Beach. For more information, please visit the HNL website: https://airports.hawaii.gov/hnl.

As Hawaiʻi is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and pricing fluctuates, please check the internet for flights, flight prices, and flight times to arrive in Honolulu, Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi well in advance of the start of the AGM

Ground Transportation

Airport To The ʻAlohilani Resort Waikīkī Beach

You can reach your accommodations at ʻAlohilani in Waikīkī by way of taxi, airport shuttle, rideshare, public transportation (TheBus) or by making pre-arrangements for transportation with friends or colleagues who may also be attending the the AGM.

The following information can help you plan your transportation from the airport to your lodging.

AIRPORT TAXI

One can easily catch an airport taxi from the airport. The non-rush hour taxi fare from the airport to Waikīkī is around $35-$45. Cabs accept cash or credit cards for payment.

One taxi option is Star Discount Taxi. Pay a flat fare of per trip between the airport and your lodging with no luggage surcharge and other fees. This means that no matter if one or four people travel in a party to the same destination, the fare remains the flat rate. USD cash payments only.

Call Star Discount Taxi at 1-800-671-2999 (toll free) or 1-808-942-7827 (local), and have the following information ready: Date of arrival, Name of airline, Flight number, Approximate time of arrival, Number of people in your party, Approximate number of pieces of luggage, Your cell phone number, and Your destination.

AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICES

There are airport shuttles for hire. Shuttle services are usually more reliable than traditional taxis and allow for you to make arrangements beforehand more easily. Booking a shuttle is especially recommended for groups. A good rule of thumb is to arrive 15 to 30 minutes before your scheduled shuttle pick-up time.

The Roberts Hawaii Express Shuttle provides affordable, on-demand island-wide transfer services from HNL to your destination.

RIDESHARE: UBER AND LYFT

Uber and Lyft are ridesharing options (similar to taxis) that operate throughout Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. Customers using a ride share service may only be picked up in designated areas at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. The designated pick up areas are all located on the second level (Departures) at the airport. All designated areas are signed “Ride App Pickup.” View the HNL Terminal maps for specific pickup locations: http://terminalmaps.hawaii.gov:8080/hmaps/hnl.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: TheBus

TheBus is an affordable and accessible option for public transportation in Hawaiʻi. For information on routes, times and fares, you can call (808) 848-5555 or visit the website. Buses only accept USD cash or the HOLO Card. Cash must be exact since they don’t give change. HOLO Cards can be purchased (cash only) at these vendors: https://www.holocard.net/where-to-obtain-load-a-card/. You cannot purchase a HOLO card on the bus.

TheBus has an excellent app with bus arrival and departure times. The app name is DaBus2.

Be sure to check TheBus’ website for updated rates: https://www.thebus.org/.

Catching the Bus from HNL Airport

Bus #20 will take you directly from the airport to Waikīkī (see timetable).

  1. After you exit baggage claim, go upstairs to the upper-level of the airport and head to the bus stop in the center median of the road. There are three bus stops outside each terminal.
    1. Interisland Terminal (#913) for Hawaiian
    2. Main Terminal Ewa (#914) for Alaska as well as any international airline
    3. Main Terminal Diamond Head (#915) for United, Delta, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines
  2. Board Bus #20 Waikiki Beach & Hotels and head to your destination.

  3. We recommend using a phone map app like Google Maps or Apple Maps to plan your bus route since these apps have our local public transportation information.
