This summer, SHS will be installing brand new MicroFridge units in all residence halls. MicroFridges are a combination refrigerator/freezer appliance with a connected microwave on top. The units also possess two USB ports and one outlet for charging or powering devices. The dimensions of the unit are 44”H X 18.7”W X 19.7”D.
Residents will benefit from not having to haul large, bulky appliances during move-in, which is anticipated to save time and make for a more seamless move-in experience. The change will also significantly reduce the amount of trash and e-waste that is generated each year, which directly supports sustainability efforts within SHS.
In light of this change, the SHS policy on student housing has been updated and personal microwaves/refrigerators have been added to list of prohibited items in residence halls starting in the 2024-2025 academic year.
Please note that this change will not impact residents in the Hale Wainani apartments where a full-size refrigerator is provided and one personal microwave per apartment will be permitted for use.
