The learning objectives of the Nutritional Sciences MS program are that students will:
a. Demonstrate mastery of fundamental knowledge in the field of nutrition.
b. Demonstrate advanced scholarship in their specialty area in the field of nutrition.
c. Communicate both orally and in writing at a high level of proficiency.
d. Conduct and interpret nutrition research.
e. Function as a professional in their chosen discipline.

All SLOs were targetted. Assessment goals, questions, techniques:
1) Six MS students were give oral "candidacy" exams by a committee of graduate faculty members to assess the students basic knowledge in nutrition and closely related disciplines. All passed with no conditions.
2) 14 students were given final exams/thesis defenses by their MS thesis committees to assess: research productivity, knowledge of their research field, academic writing abilities, and oral presentation skills. All passed and graduated.
3) A survey was conducted to identify the career path of alumni who graduated within the past 2 years.

Summarize the actual results.
All 6 students given oral Candidacy exams passed the exam, some with conditions for how to overcome weaknesses identified in the exam/assessment.
From the survey of 14 alumni who graduated within the past two years: 2 are in a PhD programs, 1 is in Pharmancy school, 2 are in dietetic internship programs, 7 are employed in a nutrition, food, or health-related position, 1 is an instructor at UH Manoa, and 1 is raising a young child with her career on hold.
12) State how the program used the results or plans to use the results. Please be specific.
Results of candidacy exams and final exams/thesis defences will be reported to the graduate division and used as evidence of student progress and program quality within the graduate program.
Results of the survey of alumni career paths will be reported to the Graduate Division and program graduate faculty as evidence of program success and quality. They will also be used for recruitment of new students.

This can include insights about assessment procedures, teaching and learning, program aspects and so on.
We have a quality MS program that is producing graduates that can: 1) further their training by being accepted into PhD and professions school programs, 2) be employed in the field, and 3) contribute to the needs of sociey for nutrition professionals.
