We have an annual faculty review of all MA and PhD students, where we discuss whether each student's performance meets program SLO's.

Qualifying exams

2019: 4 took the exams in May and Aug 2020;  All passed the exams. 

2020: 1 did not pass the required courses and did not take the exam; 4 took the exams in May and Aug 2020;  2 passed them; one passed one out of two and continuing; the other one failed both exams and will not continue in the program.

 

Third year research paper

6 submitted in May 2019; 4 completed and passed by Aug 2019, 1 completed and passed in Aug 2020. 1 withdrew/left the program.

 

12 submitted in June 2020; 10 completed and passed by Aug 2020; 1 still incomplete. 1 withdrew/left the program.

15) Please briefly describe how the program used its findings/results.

1. We continue to fine-tune the joint MA/PhD core courses to make them more accessible for MA students, and use different grading criteria for MA and PhD students.

2. We introduced new courses: Econ 621 (Macroeconomics III) and Econ 630 (Econometrics III) in order to strengthen the achievements of SLO#1 and #2. We filed a request to modify the program by reorganizing the fields to meet the students' needs more effectively (approved by OVCAA in Spring 2020). 

3. We introduced the "Outstanding PhD Student Award" to celebrate the best students in the program.   

 

16) Beyond the results, were there additional conclusions or discoveries? This can include insights about assessment procedures, teaching and learning, and great achievements regarding program assessment in this reporting period.

We found that the students would need more reminders about academic integrity and avoiding plagiarism.
