The previous grad chair has noted there is a cultural / historical resistance to assessment of faculty activites by other faculty that has been hard to overcome.  I am the new graduate chair, and have begun a process of examining our graduate curriculum and have been talking to the students.  I think assessment is in order, but it will take some time to implement this.  The goal for this year will be to take a critical look at our graduate program and make revisions where necessary.
