7) Briefly explain the assessment activities that took place in the last 28 months.
The Department has undertaken a review of SLOs and student assesment.
The Graduate Committee of the department has analysized previous qualfying exam results. They have also collected feedback on student oral presentatio, both comprehensive exam presentation and thesis defenses.
This has resulted in changes in the course structure, new qualifying exams and comprehensive exam protocols.

30 Almost all current PhD students were used. We considered qualifying results (as a group) and individual thesis/orals.

It was determined the (former) system of Qualifying exams was not appropriate. While it aligned with old SLOs, those SLOs needed to be changed to be in line with the growth of the mathematics discipline.
A new system was implemented. New SLOs were written and new qualfying exam structure was implemented.

Progam instituted new qualifying exam proceedures that are more in line with the expansion of the discipline.
15) Beyond the results, were there additional conclusions or discoveries? This can include insights about assessment procedures, teaching and learning, and great achievements regarding program assessment in this reporting period.
New system of course/ qualifying exams will be monitored in the coming years.
