The program aims to develop scientists able to perform independent research with moderate supervision in a subdiscipline of chemistry and to present the research results orally and in writing to an audience of peers. The extent to which this goal is reached is assessed with the following SLO's:

a) progress reports to the student's committee;

b) completion of 18 credits of advanced course work;

c) presentation of background for research project and of research results in an open forum;

d) publication of research results in peer reviewed journals.

Tthe Department Chair and Associate Chair continued their annual meetings with the graduate students ("focus groups"). The Dept. Chair is also the Graduate Chair, and the Associate Chair supervises all TAs (most of Chemistry's graduate students are supported by TAships). We plan to increase the frequency of the meetings, as well as target special needs and issues with smaller groups and other, informal venues.

Our current number of faculty are not sufficient to support regular offerings of our graduate classes.  We are unable to provide a defined curriculum map, as graduate courses are often offered on an ad hoc basis depending on the availability of instructors.  The Dean and VCAA have been informed of our faculty hiring needs and we await a positive response.
