Eriza Bareng

Eriza Bareng received her MA and PhD from the Department of American Studies at University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her dissertation, “Steeling the Butterfly: The Imperial Constructions of Imelda Marcos 1966-1990,” examines the controversial figure of the former Philippine First Lady and her multiple cultural representations as a gendered political subject vis-à-vis empire building, state power, and nationalism. She earned her B.A. from Occidental College and is a proud graduate of Farrington High School. Eriza currently works at the University of Hawai‘i Foundation as Associate Director of Development, supporting the fundraising initiatives of the College of Arts, Languages & Letters.
