What is TRIO Student Support Services?

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is an established, national, federal program that offers individual, personalized academic planning and advising, and other activities to support the retention and graduation of first-generation college students and those with high financial need. Students are accepted into the program if they meet eligibility requirements and can benefit from participating. Visit our Services page for more info.

Our Mission

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) originated with other TRIO programs in the Higher Education Act of 1965 and has been present on the Mānoa campus since 1970.  Its mission is to increase the graduation and retention of first-generation college students and those with high financial need.  Our office, TRIO Mānoa, is a SEED department in the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.

It provides a centrally-located study room and computer lab and offers academic advising and workshops. Active students can expect assistance in monitoring their academic progress, developing a reasonable plan toward graduation, opportunities for tuition scholarships, help in selecting a major or career, and assistance in applying for financial aid. Check out our Services page for more info.

What does TRIO Mānoa expect from me?

To be an active TRIO Mānoa student, we require that you have one advising contact and participate in at least one event each semester with our advisors to keep your records and academic plan updated. While this is a minimum, many students use our facilities, attend events, and meet with TRIO Mānoa advisors more frequently during the semester.
